9 months

Dear Avery & Harper,

You are now 9 months old. Once again, you have changed so much since last month. You are both on the move and it's so hard to take your picture....ha ha!

Avery you now weigh 15 lbs. 15 oz. and you are 28 inches long. You are still comfortably wearing size 3 diapers and fit best in 9 month cloths. We can still squeeze you in a few 6 month items. Just depends on the brand. Avery you are an amazing sleeper. You consistently sleep 12 hours a night and take two naps each day. Also, you love to read and your favorite book is Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

Harper you are now 13 lbs. 15 oz. and 27 inches long. You are now wearing size 3 diapers and fit best in 6 month clothes. I don't think you require as much sleep as Avery, you are just like your daddy! Typically you wake up once at night to eat and then you go back to sleep. I really enjoy my snuggle time with you in the middle of the night. You also are napping twice a day. Harper you are such a loving and cuddly child. I love every minute of it!!

You are both saying momma and dadda. Also, you say several consonant sounds. Avery you seem to be more chatty between you and your sister. Harper you LOVE to sing. Anytime I start singing a song you like to song a tune too!

The biggest change since last month is that you are both crawling!! Daddy and I have been baby proofing a lot of things around the house. You two can quickly get around the house. Needless to say we thought we were busy before, that meaning is now completely different.

In addition to crawling, you two enjoy are cruising from one piece of furniture to another. I really think you will be walking before you turn a year. We shall see!!

I'm anxious to see how much you change over the next month. Oh before I forget...I took your pic with your awesome pediatrician, Dr. Crow. She will be on maternity leave at your one year appointment, so I wanted to be sure that you get one picture with her before you turn a year.

Love you to the moon and back sweet girls!!

Belated Halloween Party

Avery and Harper went to their first Halloween party over the weekend. They only wore their costumes for a few minutes because it was such a hot day.

They are the cutest little lady bugs that I've ever seen!!

They baby proofed the hostess house pretty quickly. The girls were all over the place....ha ha!!

Never a Dull Moment

These two are on the move constantly. Here is a progression of a mini photo shoot yesterday morning. As you can see it is hard to get them to both look at the camera at the same time. Some day it will happen again.

Halloween 2012

We had a pretty low key Halloween, but it was still fun! Our sweet friend Sarah came by to love on the babies and visit us. It was nearly 80 degrees on Halloween, so I didn't want to put the babies in their ladybug costumes. Thought it would be s little too hot. Instead I put them in an adorable Halloween tutu and we went for a stroll around the neighborhood.

These pics are from a couple weeks ago when they tried on their outfits.

All ready to go on their evening walk. We let them take their Halloween bag, but we didn't do any trick or treating...maybe next year!

By the time we got back home with was time to start our bed time routine. Jeremy and Sarah gave them a bath, fed them and put them to bed, while I handed out candy to a few trick or treaters. I'm sure our future Halloween holidays will be much for exciting.

Full Circle

Yesterday I had a full circle moment, when Avery and Harper met my fertility specialist, Dr. Goldstein. We attended Dr. G's annual Celebration of Babies.

I feel so thankful and blessed that technology and education has come so far in the infertility field. Without all of the research and my amazing doctor, Avery and Harper would not be here today. When I saw Dr. Goldstein yesterday I immediately started crying, he probably thought wow I really have a basket case on my hands...ha ha!!!! It was amazing to see all of the babies and children that he has helped bring into this world. I will forever be grateful and thankful to him.

We were so lucky to have a few friends come along with us too. Avery and Harper's Godparents were there to celebrate this special day too.

Meredith with Harper.

Sarah and I with Avery.

Meredith's family came to celebrate two special little babies in their family as well. Her adorable cousins were there with their parents, grandma and Meredith's sister Lindsay. Dr. G was the miracle worker that helped her aunt and uncle become parents too. Oh my goodness her cousins are absolutely precious!!!! Unfortunately, I didn't get a pic of them at the celebration.

This is an event that we plan to attend every year!

Love this pic...Avery's facial expression is hysterical. Promise she was happy!!

Kickin' Cancer to the Curb!

The past couple of months have been a whirlwind. While I should be enjoying every second with my twins, I have been worrying about something I never thought I would faced with....cancer!!! Let me take you back a couple of years ago, I noticed that the right side of my neck had a lump. Of course I freaked out and went to the doctor. My primary physician sent me to have an ultrasound of my neck. At that time they discovered I had a few enlarged nodules on my right thyroid lobe, but nothing that looked suspicious. This was a relief because, at that time, we were preparing to do IVF. Fast forward to this summer and I noticed my lump was significantly larger. Made another appointment with my primary doctor, she sent me for yet another ultrasound. Unfortunately the results did not come back as good. She thought it would be best for me to visit an Endrocronologist for a biopsy. A month later I was finally able to get into an Endrocronologist. She did a biopsy and called me a week later, on a Sunday no less, to tell me that I in fact have thyroid cancer.

At this point I'm angry, scared and don't know what to think about this diagnosis. After a long struggle with infertility, going through IVF, 76 days in the hospital on bed rest, and now I have thyroid cancer, while trying to keep up with my 8 month old twins. Looking back now, I know that God put me through all of those struggles for a reason. He was trying to prepare me for something much for difficult. Through those experiences he taught me to be patience and more understanding!!!!! Now I understand why he gave Avery and Harper to me at this time. He knew I would need them to help me get through this. Looking at them daily has given me the strength to tackle this disease head on.

October 3rd I was admitted into the hospital to have a total thyroidectomy. It was so incredibly hard to leave Avery and Harper, this was the first night I had ever spent away from them. With Jeremy, my mom and grandma by my side, we left to go to the hospital. The surgery went well and they removed not only thyroid, but also 22 lymph nodes from behind my thyroid. Out of the 22 lymph nodes, only 2 had cancer....praise the Lord!!!!! My scar is looking better and better everyday.

On Tuesday, October 23rd I was admitted to the hospital for iodine radiation. Through this whole process, this was by far the hardest experience. I had to be in isolation at the hospital for 2 days. Being away from Avery and Harper killed me. They were in good hands with Jeremy, my mom and their nanny, Kayla. They were busy pulling up on everything, playing and going for daily walks.

After not feeling so good Wednesday, in the hospital, yesterday evening I was released to come home. It was so good to see my babies smiling faces!!!! They acted like they were in shock to see me, since it had been a couple of days.

At this time I am so ready to start caring for my babies full time. I'm still too radioactive to hold them for long periods of time. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful people to help us out!! We have had many friends and family helping Jeremy with the girls. Caring for one baby is a lot of work, but when you have twins it is non-stop all of the time!!! Each day I thank Him for helping me find my cancer early and that I have a positive prognosis. In time, my energy will come back and we will be able to move on with our life.

Pulling up....

Harper seems to be doing something new everyday. She is now pulling up on everything. We had to baby proof several things in the house over the weekend.

She is so proud of herself, as she should be.

Love this sweet pic of my girls from tonight. I broke a sweat taking this pic. They were trying to crawl away in opposite directions....ha ha!!

Avery's Helmet

Well I'm a bit behind, but on Wednesday October 3rd Avery graduated from her helmet.

She handled the helmet so well, but I'm sure she feels even better having it off.

Luckily she only wore it for 8 weeks. Her little head looks so much better.

The staff at Cranial Technologies was amazing. They were very sweet to us each visit.

Pumpkin Patch 2012

Today we headed to the pumpkin patch. This is one thing I have been looking forward to, taking my own children to pick out pumpkins.

They loved the mini pumpkins, so of course we had to get a couple.

Then we strolled around picking out a couple pumpkins for our house.

8 months

Dear Avery & Harper,
You are now 8 months old. Eek....that means you are quickly approaching one year. Slow down baby girls, slow down!!

You have changed so much in the last month.

Avery I'm not sure how much you weigh, but you are now comfortably wearing 6-9 month clothes and a size 3 diaper. You have the sweetest giggle I have ever heard. You think your daddy is hilarious. This month you are saying several consonant sounds...ya ya, ba ba and the most important of all da da. We think sometimes you say "hi" with a very southern draw. Other people have heard it, so I think what we are hearing is true. You have also perfected the army crawl. Also, you can now go from your belly to sitting up on your own. You now have 2 teeth. They both came in at the same time. I really think you have a high pain tolerance because it didn't seem to bother you much. You are such a big girl now!

Harper you have changed a lot too. I'm not sure how much you weigh, but you are really dainty and skinny for a 8 month old. You LOVE solid food a lot. In fact you prefer it over drinking your bottle. I'm interested to see how much you weigh at your 9 month appointment. You fit perfectly in 6 month clothes and are still wearing a size 2 diaper. You started saying momma this month. It was music to my ears. Also, you are army crawling everywhere. Now you chase us from room to room...ha ha! You are saying a lot of consonant sounds too, ya ya, ba ba and again ma ma. You also sprouted 1 tooth this month. Harper your personality fills a room and your smile is so sweet.

Bath time is a hit in our house. Now that you have bath seats we stay in there longer. You both enjoy playing with your toys and splashing the water.

Both cribs have also been lowered, see that sneaky little one above?!?! Her crib was the first to be lowered.

You are both eating solids pretty good. Avery, you are still cautious but love fruit.

Daddy and I can't wait to see how much you change over the next month. We assume you will both be full time crawlers by then, you are so close.

We love you to the moon and back!
Mommy and Daddy
